To my Wife and Best Friend

The light of the setting sun slowly fades as the day ends. Or is this the beginning of a lonely evening without you? I walked through the small streets, some people mostly couples were passing by. When i looked at the lights reflecting on the water, my thoughts wander off and I think about the first time we met.

It was more than 5 years ago when we met online. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was bored with playing games on the pc. I searched for chat rooms of Jehovah's witnesses and the top on the list was the chat room of witnesses.about.com. There were about 10 people online, 3 of them were you, Lani and Dave. You and Lani were speaking in a strange language and so I asked from which country you are and if you would like to chat with me. You agreed and said that you're from the Philippines. I had no idea where that is, but i thought i just look it up later in the atlas rather than asking you where it is.

After a short chat we agreed to exchange e-mail addresses and from then on we let our friendship grow. We talked about everything under the sun and became bestfriends. Then finally after a year we met for real! The first few days were kind of awkward. It was so different than what I'm used too. But after a few days we opened up our hearts and fell in love! We had a great time, but there was also the sad goodbye.

The distance and time proved to be hard on us but still our love grew even more stronger. On the first day of 2001 we declared our eternal love for each other and set the course for marriage and living together from then on. After a year i met you for the second time and it was like falling in love all over again. We felt how strong our relationship has become and everything felt so right.

Alas, there is that goodbye again, but we know it will not be for long and soon we marry and stay together. Things change for the worse. I lost my job and couldn't find a new job on short notice. Good thing was that I saved enough and because of your planning skills the wedding pushed through!

We met for the third time and had to do many things and plan a lot. Then at 19 december 2001 we experienced the first greatest day of our life together: our Wedding! The day went by so fast and so the remaining few days i had in the Philippines we spent together as husband and wife. One and a half weeks after our wedding i had to board the plane back to Holland. This was the most difficult goodbyes we had to say.

In January 2002 I found a new job in Maastricht and had to move to Belgium. I had to move far from my family and you were still not here with me. It was a very difficult period in my life and i often felt depressive, but the thought that you will be here soon kept me going.

Finally after 9 months of waiting you arrived! That was our second greatest day. Now the growing-together period started and our love grew even more stronger and just keeps on growing. I can write on for many hours about all the things we've shared and experienced, but let me note one of them. We stare into each other's eyes and feel our warmth. I feel so happy and grateful, for you and having you here with me. I always love holding you securely in my arms and make sure no harm will ever come to you.

Slowly the land becomes light again and a new day is born. After all the thoughts i had about us I am not so lonely tonight. I've been together with a thousand thoughts of you. 5 years may not seem much for some, but for us it is a lifetime! Many, many more years will follow and our love will keep on growing, until someday we can live together forever and ever!

Forever in your heart,
Toby

  1. Donna and Toby...I thought Nico and I were the only ones not afraid to talk about love and what love does. I am so pround to have met you. People share lives when they...not say...but just do...to be there for each other, change tears into crystals of laughter, and sorrows to clouds of great blue joy!

In my heart

June 28, 2000 I’m looking outside my window... the sky gets darker as the time for the sunset gets closer. Dark clouds pack together and drizzly rainfalls makes little water drops on the glass. I ‘sigh’ and wonder what you are doing right now. I realize that you are sleeping and I try to picture you in my mind. I see you lying in your bed, peacefully dreaming. Your little head, your eyes closed, you mouth a little open and breathing slow and deep. I wish I could step in your room and kiss you on your lips and hold you forever in my arms. To protect you from harm and take care of you as I feel obligated. You are too far away, out of my reach, yet you are closer than anyone else; you are right here in my heart. I lay down on my bed, staring at the sealing. I hug my pillow, wishing it is you, but who can I fool but my own heart. A little tear runs down my cheek and I think of how you used to wipe away that tear. Your wonderful smile, beautiful voice and you pretty face staring a...
